How to Set Wholesale Pricing in BigCommerce Stores?

What is wholesale pricing?

Wholesale pricing is the opposite of retail pricing and it refers to the cost of a product when it is sold in bulk to large distributors. In other words, wholesale pricing is a discounted price that customers pay when buying in large quantities.

Setting wholesale pricing on BigCommerce, as opposed to merely at retail price, which is the normal price at which a customer will purchase your product, would result in:

How to set wholesale pricing for a product in BigCommerce stores?

This part will discuss how to set wholesale pricing in BigCommerce stores via Bulk Pricing Rules for individual products.

Wholesale pricing for individual products can be managed under the Pricing section. For detailed information, please follow the below steps:

Step 1: Choose a product that you want to set wholesale pricing

Of course, to set wholesale pricing for a product, the first thing you need to do is to choose that product.

You need to go to Products and choose the product that you want to set wholesale pricing. See the below image for more clarity.

Step 2: Click on Pricing under the Product Information section

You can click on Pricing under the Product information section or scroll through the Product Information page to reach the Pricing section.

Step 3: Click on Show Advanced Pricing

Step 4: Select the type of discount you want

Under the Discount Type drop-down list, there are three options available for you:

- % Discount which means customers get a total percent off the product (e.g. “Order 2 or more, get 20% off”)

- $ Fixed amount which means customers pay a fixed price per unit (e.g. “Get 2 for $10 each”)

- $ Off/Unit which means customers receive a fixed $ amount off per unit (e.g. “Save $10 when you buy 3 or more”)

Click on the discount option you want to set and move on to the next step.

Step 5: Enter the Min quantity

Under Min Quantity, enter the lowest quantity of your lowest pricing tier.

For example, if orders of 2-4 get a 10% discount and orders of 5 or more products get a 30% discount, you would enter “2” to represent the lowest end of your first tier. When creating another tier, you would enter “5”.

After entering the minimum quantity, you need to enter the % discount, fixed price per unit, or $ off that you want to set for your specific product. After that, the Unit Price column will update automatically.

You can also write the unit price first, then the % discount, fixed price per unit, or $ off will adjust accordingly.

Step 7: Click +Add tiers to add more tiers if you want to

How to set wholesale pricing for all products in one or more categories?

In this part, we will talk about how to set wholesale pricing for all products in one or more categories, as opposed to one product only in the previous part, using the Automatic Promotion. This method can be called “Creating a cart-level tiered quantity discount”.

Apart from offering the same kind of bulk pricing rules for multiple products, the Automatic Promotion functionality also enables you to:

  • Restrict the bulk discount to a certain customer group.
  • Select a start and stop date for the discount.
  • Limit the number of times the discount can be applied.
  • Manually activate/ deactivate the discount offer at any time.

If this is something you want to do for your BigCommerce store, let’s follow the below steps!

Step 1: Create New Automatic Promotion

First of all, you need to go to Marketing (on the left-hand side of your BigCommerce Control Panel), and click on Promotions. You will see an interface like this: You will see an interface like this

After that, click on + New automatic promotion to create a new promotion for customers while they enter the cart or checkout.

Step 2: Give the promotion a name and choose a promotion type

Here you need to enter the name for your new automatic promotion. This name should be easy for customers to understand and also covers all the necessary information about the discount.

There are six promotion types available for you to choose from: Shipping discount, Product discount, Brand discount, Category discount, Order discount, Customer discount.

However, you need to choose the Category discount option. you need to choose the Category discount option.

Step 3: Select Apply a tiered discount to applicable products based on the quantity of items ordered within one or more categories and the categories you want to apply the discount

In this step, you need to select the third option Apply a tiered discount to applicable products based on the quantity of items ordered within one or more categories. After that, a list of categories will be displayed automatically.

You will have to choose one or as many categories as you want to apply the discount. You will have to choose one or as many categories as you want to apply the discount.

Step 4: Enter the Minimum quantity and Discount value

Choose the discount type you want to apply. There are two types available: amount off and percentage off.

Then specify the minimum quantity and discount value for your automatic promotion. You can also click the + button to add a new tier and the ✕ button to remove a tier.

Step 5: Adjust your other discount settings

In this step, you need to set up the wholesale pricing for all customers or customers that belong to certain customer groups. You can create customer groups like Wholesale and choose this option to apply the discount for wholesale merchants only.

You can also set a time for the discount in the Duration section. All you need to do is to choose the start date and end date.

Besides, click on Limit the usage of this discount and enter the specified number if you want to restrict the number of discounts you offer customers.

Finally, you can manually activate or deactivate the discount by checking/ unchecking the box Activate.

Step 6: Click Save

Click Save

Once you’re done with adjusting all the discount settings, you need to click Save to save all your changes.

And that’s how you set wholesale pricing for all products in one or more categories in your BigCommerce stores.
