How to Create an Automated Collection on Shopify

To begin with, you have to understand what an automated collection is. For the most part, it is a collection that allows you to set specific conditions to include matching products automatically. The collection will always update to include products which meet all these conditions and contain the same products unless you add or remove products as you like.

You can create a manual collection if you want to choose specific products for a collection. The specific products that you choose will be included in a manual collection.

However, you cannot change an automatic collection to a manual collection. Instead, you can create a new manual collection and add a tag to the products that you want. Then you can set that tag as a condition in your a new automated collection you have created. Therefore, you can easily delete the original manual collection after you create the automated collection.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to create an automated collection quickly.

It is vital to note that you can set a specific date when the collection will be published to your Shopify store if you do not want to publish the collection as soon as you create it.

How to create an automated collection

Step 1: Go to Collections section

Go to Products > Collections from your Shopify admin.

Step 2: Create collection

Click on Create collection.

Step 3: Enter collection details

Fill in a title and description for the collection.

Step 4: Choose collection type

Click Automated in the Collection type section.

Choose the products need to fit all conditions or any condition included in the collection.
Set the collection conditions by using the drop-down lists.

Step 5: Add product to collection

Click Save. In the Products section, the products that fit the conditions are auto-added to the collection.

Step 6: Set sort order

If you want the products to be sorted in your store, you can set the sort order.

Step 7: Active sales channels

Choose active sales channels in the Sales channels section.

Step 8: Add image for collection

Add an image for the collection by clicking Upload image in the Collection image section.

Step 9: Edit how collection displayed

(Optinal) A preview of how the collection displayed in search results will appear in the Search engine listing preview section. Click Edit website SEO to edit this information. However, the URL and handle cannot be changed due to they are used to link the collection to your Shopify store.

Step 10: Save collection

Click Save.

Step 11: Find and view collection

To help customers find and view the collection, add a link to your collection in your online store navigation.

To create an automated collection on iPhone (Click here)

Step 1: Go to Products > Collections from the Shopify app.
Step 2: Tap the + button.
Step 3: Fill in a title and description for the collection.
Step 4: (Optional) Upload an image for the collection by tapping the image icon.
Step 5: Enable Automatically select products.
Step 6: (Optional) Customize sales channels that the collection will be visible by tapping Sales channels. The new collection will be available to all of your sales channels by default. If you want to hide the collection from sales channels, you can deselect those channels.
Step 7: (Optional) To select the order in which the collection's products will display, tap Sorting.
Step 8: Add the selection conditions for the collection in the Conditions section.
Step 9: Tap the check mark to save the collection.
Step 10: To help customers find and view the collection, add a link to your collection in your online store navigation.

Step 2: Tap the + button.
